Agreing to the views of Prabhat, I may like to some of my personal
experience which I gathered during my many visits to Jharkhand.
Most of the attacks on tribals is perhaps the result of a an
efforts to control over the tribal land by non-tribals. Where
tribals are now becoming educated, the baniyas/seth/sahukars have
been compelled to sell their lands because they are not getting
servants now a days to work in their fields. It appears these
frustrated business men are behind attacks on tribals and creating
rifts between the tribals themselves in the name of religion caste
and so on. On the other hand many of our tribals are selling their
lands due to their habits of alchohalsism. In Jharkhand, non tribals
have found a unique way to purchase lands because as per law tribal
land cannot be sold to non-tribals. Non-tribes may marry a tribal
girl and land is purchased in her name. According to my information
the tribals in Ranchi have now become a minority in their own
land.Tribal people have been exploited in the past and still under
exploitation by many. Any one having knowledge may like to enlighten
us more on this issue.Dr.Vincent Barla
