A script cannot emerge from nowhere. It needs a spoken language. And, our oldest language is Sanskrit. Devanagari is a script of Northern part of India, while the south had its own Sanskrit lipi called grantha. It is still in vogue for Vedic and Agamic learning see <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grantha_script >
My point was, if a script itself is as old as 300o bc, then how old will be the labguage ? Sanskrit is a special case. It had an oral tradition of thousands of years before written down.
Please , do not be guided by the western indologists .
