Re: Adivasi coming near to Hindu society is forgetting their own customs and traditions. Therefore, the new generation finds it difficult to define the limits of their customs.
I must begin by stating that my politics anti-hindunationalist. I think Hindutwa will destroy the state of India. I want India to remain a multi-nationsal state! Yet, I am surprised at the worries expressed about Adivasis losing traditions because of becoming closer to Hindu society. As I see it from India's northeast a whole lot of communities have been losing their traditions because they converted to Christianity! For most communities religion is an integral part of traditions and such traditions never remain for ever. Traditions are used by people to serve certain purposes and therefore they are built, nurtured and changed accordiong to the requirement of people. The cry about losing tradition is a part of the instrumentalism of dominant sections of all societies in pursuit of sectional imnterest.
Let people take care of the traditions they need.

first of all, the adivasis doesnt have any religion.. what they have is a culture and set of customs.. they dont have holybook or their "only one god".. they are nature worshippers, and similar to pagans/pantheists of the europe, who were caricatured and ostracized as animists, and were exterminated/converted. In India, Hinduism itself is a collection of wide variety of cultures and people. Hinduism is NOT monolithic, and hence we cannot define its boundaries. In that aspect, even adhivasi culture has lot of similarities to hindu culture and they have more affinity towards the hinduism.. the adivasis have every qualification to be part of hinduism.. Regarding constitution categorizing them as separate religion, we need to first look in root of the constitution. Its well known that the britishers handed over the power to indians (contrary to the perception that we won from it).. till the last minute the britishers left, they had control over every aspect of the independent india.. and the missionaries who were busy with converting the tribals, ensured that the constitution doesnt include adivasis as part of hinduism..
SO this is essentially a conspiracy by the foreign powers.. Even now, we can conduct a voting among the adivasis, whether they want to be part of hinduism or not.. this will clear the air, and also will stop the pseudo secularists from emotionalising and manipulating this issue. Also, the article describes about the problem faced by adivasis for following hindu religion.. But it completely hides the fact that those adivasis who converted to christianity are hating their own brethren and religion.. they are forced to forego and abandon their own customs and rituals of their parent religion.. Why is this not ever discussed by the media?
